Hey techs! This is a note from EPA on two different items relating to
A/C service.
First, we have a fact sheet for customers you may want to print and use
as a countertop material. The fact sheet is called "Recharging Your
Car's A/C System with Refrigerant" and answers the following four questions
consumers ask us a lot:
A. What's the difference between a top-off, and an evacuation and recharge?
Why would I want one service or the other?
B. What's the difference between a top-off, and an evacuation and recharge?
Why would I want one service or the other?
C. My technician told me that EPA regulations prohibit topping-off the
refrigerant in my car without getting the leak fixed first. Is this true?
D. My technician told me he could not locate the leak in my system, so he
topped-off the refrigerant in my car, but did not perform any leak repair.
Now it seems to be low on refrigerant again -- I know the leak is still
there. What can I do?
The point of the fact sheet is to assist techs in communicating with
customers, and to help customers realize that all techs are not out there
to rip them off. The fact sheet is located at
http://www.epa.gov/ozone/title6/609/recharge.html
Second, there's another relatively new fact sheet you should know about.
It provides advice on a/c retrofits from an a/c specialty shop in
Ft. Lauderdale that has performed over 1000 retrofits.
It goes maker by maker, model by model.
To locate it, click on http://www.epa.gov/ozone/title6/609/oneshop.html
Please let me know if you have comments on either. Thanks.
