| Removing Stuck or Damaged Orifice Tubes |
Removing an orifice tube is normally an easy task. A nice gentle twisting pulling motion usually does the trick. You can purchase or rent a
removal tool which comes with different attachment tips for different
jobs -or- as many people do, just grab a good pair of needle nose pliers and start twisting and pulling. Then there are the ones
that won't budge. This can present a real challenge.
Once the top breaks off, you find yourself with an orifice tube
that you can no longer reach with needle nose pliers, and it's damaged
so bad you can't leave it as is. Houston, now we have a problem!
Removing a Stuck Orifice Tube with a Drywall Screw
This tip is intended for that occasion where the orifice tube is stuck,
and has either broken inside the tube, or is close to breaking.
At last resort, use a 3-4" drywall/deck screw. Just be careful
that you don't damage the aluminum tube. You must first break/pull off
the top part of the orifice tube. If not, you could accidentally run
the screw into the area beside the orifice. The danger is scratching
the tube that the orifice sits in, thus ruining the orifice o-ring seal
area.
The picture above still has the Ford orifice tube stuck on.
The screw needs to be about 3-4" long. They are available at any hardware store.

great info! Now I know an orifice tube puller is not an absolutely necessary tool for job I have ahead of me
