I've has good luck with retrofitting those cars. Check on the air box for a yellow sticker advising that the car has an "improved" flow condenser. Seen a copule of these so far this year. Ford was getting ready for the switch in 93. As far as price to check your system out, it depends on the shop. Most are around $50.00, deducted from the repair price if they do the work. But what is your complaint? Most often it's leaking spring lock fittings.
