Year: 86 Hi...I haven't post here for a while (actually since last summer). I'd like some opinion please. Here's the details:- Insufficient cooling on my car so I hook up gauges set. Initial readings were 15/165 so I knew it's low on freon. When I charged it slowly, I noticed the low side went up to 30-35 while the high side went up to about 175. Then I continue to charge to 190 for Hi according to the 2.2x rule. Then low side also went up to 45. Vent temp was about 51F. This work was done under shade. I estimate I put in about 6-7 oz of R12 into the system (full system is about 28-32 ozs, from the manual). Driving experience yesterday (midday about 2pm, around 87F):- A/C in REC mode, Full fan speed. It cools down faster and it setted down to 60F after the first few mins. The car had to be moving to get it down to 48F. If the car is in stop and go traffic, the temp will rise to about 55F. All fans are running. I think I am cool with 48F in a summer day. I also noticed that if my car is facing away from the sun, the temp can get down 2 more degrees. I understand the low side pressure has a close relationship with the temp at the evaporator. Therefore, having 45psi at the low side will not give my low enough temp at the evaporator. My questions are: (1) Is my compressor loosing effeciency so my low side is higher than normal (@45psi)? (2) Have I overcharged it? with 45/190 as my final pressure readings @86F ambient temp? Thanks. -AC
