A/C / vents on Renault scenic 2000 model

Hi, I have renault scenic 1.6 16v .
The air con blows cool ish but not cold.

The vents on a scenic are a bit naff anyway needing the controller to be set on 3-4 out of 4 to feel a breeza 12 inches away.

The vehicle is only 2 years old and not Haynes / detail manual exists.
There appears no leaks or oil around the engine compartment and i would say that using the a/c is slightly cooler than just vents alone and hence i believe the unit to be working to an extent.

As a non mechanical bod, anyone give me some ideas?
