air vent selector is stuck on floor mode

I have a question on my '96 Chevy pickup. On a trip back from Virginia I noticed that the air vent selector is stuck on floor mode. Defrost and other selections do not respond. A/C will not respond. Selector switch rotates but selections do not respond.
I've looked for loose vacuum lines and checked fuses.
Any ideas?
