Subject:    80 chevy pickup a/c pulley and clutch installation

Year: 80
Make: chevy
Model: 1/2 ton pickup

Refrigerant: R-12

I am told I have an A-6 compressor used on suburbans. The clutch has rubber on the front of it. The clutch wore out and there was little air gap which made it rub when it was disengaged. I installed a new pulley-clutch assembly. I pressed the pulley on and installed the snap ring. I pressed the clutch on but was afraid to push it on too far. What should the clutch gap be? The clutch will kick on fine at low rpm but when I am driving it squeals when it kicks on. The pulley is also noisey when the clutch is disengaged. Do i have a bad bearing in the new pulley? I took great care when installing it with a clutch puller-installer tool. A/C cools fine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
