I have a 97 Camaro and when the air conditioning is off, a loud sound comes from the front of the air compressor. When I turn on the air conditioning it stops. I looked at it and saw some metal shavings, so I was worried that the bearings are worn down. I read one message where the suggestion was that the clutch driver air gap was too tight, and to borrow Autozone's tool to back it off a 1/2 turn, but how will I know if the bearings are too worn down or not, and if they are, could I change those myself. Any suggestions would be great!!
Thanks, Janice
