Hi,Folks,
Pardon the long post but as a last resort I'm seeking assistance from more knowledgeable persons in this excellent forum.
Well, I've finally been able to charged ES12 into my 85 Toyota Celica this weekend. I've already rebuilt my entire system, new reciever, new pipes and hoses, new pressure switch(unadjustable) flushed and cleaned with lacquer thinner the evaporator and condenser, new expansion valve, rebuilt the compressor with new o-rings and seals and cleaned evaporator pressure regulator. Added polyalpha+. Using a venturi vacuum pump for an hour pulling down to 25-26 in Hg(I know it was just a cheap pump). Allowed to sit for 20 min for leakcheck. Good, no leak according to gauges. Manual says refrigerant requirement is 1.4 to 1.7 lbs of R-12 which translates to 7.4 to 8.98 oz of ES12. since an ES12 can is 6 oz so I put in a can first and then started and warmed up to idle.
Ambient temp: 75 F
Low pres: 20 psi
High pres: 112 psi
Vent temp at max setting: 65 F
Seeing this figures I added approximatey another 1-1/2 oz, don't really have any means to measure amount from second can- just by swirling the can and feeling the weight if there's still some liquid left in the can, which it does.
This time I got these figures at idle:
Ambient temp: 75F
Low pres: 32 psi
High pres: 150 psi
Vent temp at max setting: 70 F
Car has a working electrical condenser fan and radiator fan-clutch type. I didn't water-hosed down the condenser, would that have been a factor? Return line to the compressor is not sweaty but just a little bit cold.
Can anyone tell me if I missed something or did something wrong? Did I overcharged. Do I need a propane boost?
Advance thanks to everyone for your responses.
Eric
