I guess it wan't possible to verify this condition BY LOOKING AT THEM after the fact. They must have swelled quite a lot to keep them sealed after the guages were attached. sure. maybe they couldnt be removed afterwards because the swelled too much. ya, thats it.

I thought the seals in an R-12AC system needed to be changed when converting to 134 because the r-12 type seals would leak and not because they would swell. (now I know how to get rid of those pesky o-ring leaks - throw some of that leak stop in it. what was it again, some 134, some r12 som hcs and some r22?).

anyways, the story sounds bogus. especialy the spontaneous combustion part and the part about the pressure remaining in the system a week later
