You didn't specifiy the refrigerant used, but for almost all the R-12 alternates, the low pressure switch should be adjusted to cycle with less than 30 psi. It sounds like the first charge was overcharged after the fourth can. You also appear to be undercharged after the second time. You should have cycling of the compressor if everything is working properly, especially if in recirc mode and low fan.

For best results you need to give the ambient temp and the refrigerant type. Did you also flush the system completely? Pull a "good" vacuum for long time? etc. There are lots of people that can help
