Is Hot Shot or Autofrost a good r134a replacement?

I have a old Dodge Dart that I put an aftermarket a/c system in. I went with 134a and I am not satisfied with its operation. I should have went with a parrallel-flow condenser but I didn't. It is set up for 134a ie;pag oil and 134a expansion valve. Just wanted to make sure I didn't have to change my exp. valve. Also if I didn't weigh it in, couldn't I just put some in on the liquid side and then charge it through a quick charge device on the suction side to get the right pressures?
