If you got the "good" fitting, the old valve stems should've been removed, and just the ones in the new fittings used..Can't help you on the refrigerant though.. How about the low side fitting? Isn't that leaking to?? If you have a cheap aluminium fitting, that would slip over the old one and you would use the old core, but the better Brass or heavy aluminum, always remove the old cores...
