I have (had) a very good 4 cfm vacuum pump that is getting very hot and is not pulling a full 30in of vacuum like it used to. I took off the pump cover and it was dirty, although not bad, and after cleaning I replaced the oil. It still ran very hot and the motor was having trouble starting. I then took the motor off and it ran great but when I tried to hand turn the pump it was very hard to turn. So I did the next logical thing since it wasn't working anyway and took the pump apart. I really can't see anything that would be causing me to have this vac pump problem. The pump turns freely when it is apart but when i reassemble it, it becomes hard to turn again. Someone told me that the pump can get out of alignment. In any case, is there a fix that I can do that anyone knows of or is there a repair center that is reasonable? It's about a 400.00 pump and if it costs a bunch I would be better off with a new one. The pump was made by J/B industries. Thanks!!!!
