Hi all,

I have tried searching this board for info on replacing the compressor on my 94 Intrepid, but not successful yet. I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I am relatively certain that my compressor needs replacement. Long story short, fan belts fried when the a/c was started and the clutch kicked in. Removed belt and tried to operate compressor, which could be done but got very difficult to turn in one spot for about 30 - 40 degrees. Took it to a shop for a look see, and got an estimate of $975.00 for the job. The shop wants to replace all sorts of stuff, including the condenser which is 2 years old (as is the evaporator).

My questions: would the compressor send bits and pieces thru the system causing things to become blocked and requiring replacement ? I'm certain I can replace the compressor without problems, but what to do about recharging ? Based on what I read in other posts, it doesn't sound too much like a shade tree candidate any more.

This looks like a really helpful board and I look forward to seeing what anyone has to offer for advice. Thanks in advance !
