Ignacio is correct if you open your gauges and you lose vacuum you’re just pulling in outside air through the charging line. Best bet is to leave everything attached to see if you lose vacuum. You can lose vacuum through the gauges all depends on the quality of them. Using 134a if you lose vacuum just attach a can of 134a refrigerant and use a soap and water solution to see if connections leak if you do not a quality leak detector. First pull it into a vacuum as if there are no leaks you can continue charging the system.
