Just to explain the manifold guage set to you- the knobs open or close the two side hoses (lo side on left, hi side on right) to the center manifold port.

i.e., if you open the left knob (with the right knob closed), you connect the left manifold hose to the center port.

If you open the right knob (with the left knob closed), you connect the right manifold hose to the center port.

If you open both knobs you connect both side ports to each other AND to the center port.

The guages on the manifold will read the system pressure or vacuum when the knobs are closed. opening the knobs only connects the side ports to the center ports.

So, when you want to pull a vacuum you put the vacuum pump on the center port and open both knobs to pull the vacuum thru both ports.

To check for leaks (ie vacuum retained in the system and no leaks allowing the vacuum to drop to zero) you close off both ports from the center port. now the guages will read the vacuum (or pressure in the system)

After you go to put freon back in the system, MAKE SURE THE HI SIDE KNOB IS CLOSED OR YOU WILL SEND THE HIGH PRESSURE INTO THE FREON CAN AND BLOW IT UP>
