Don't see why you can't use the center port.
But EPA wants you to keep up with the regs and have a set of 134a hoses.
All you really need is the short hoses with the valves on them.
AC SOURCE.COM has them for $36.95.
But you may be better off buying a set of 134a gauges because the R-12 will not give the right readings.
I hook to both HI & LO sides and pump through the center port.
Might want to call Robinair and ask them why you can't use the center port for vacuum.
50 microns is very good but it may go up when the pump gets hot.
I think you have that 10 pound unit?
Excellent for MVAC and window shakers.
