It really depends on what kind of car you have. Most Fords and GM cars have hoses that are fine, others (especially older imports) do not have barrier hoses in which R134a would permiate (sp) right through in most cases. If he says you need new hoses, get a second opinion, but don't dismiss that he might be right.
