5 ounces sounds about rite.
The oil was bubling because it is somewhat thick and gets foamed up easily when it is not mixed with refrigerant. Refrigerant is an extremely good solvent and it will mix with the oil and thin it out. This helps carry it around the system so everything gets lubed
