The higher volume pumps are actually intended for larger systems with remote condensers and long line sets...i.e. a walk in freezer with a 60 ft line set and 2 hp remote condensing unit would take a long time to evacuate with a 2cfm pump vs a 6 cfm pump..deeper vacuum in a larger system...A 2cfm pump is more than adequate for any automotive application given the size of the system you are evacuating...Vacuum pump oil is parafin based to provide a seal between the vanes of the pump...when it gets hot, the moisture it pulls out of the system is more prone to evaporate from the reservoir...Pump oil should be drained when it is hot to ensure getting most of the contaminated oil out of the reservoir..be good to your pump, change oil often, cheap compared to replacing the pump!!
