If you haven't fixed the problem yet, you moght consider replacing the O-rings. The Porsche Tech-Tips in the Porsche Parts and Technical Reference Catalog, Water Cooled Models 1977-1988, page 114 suggests, "The material that A/S o-rings are made of has been changed. The part numbers that we have listed above are the latest. The o-rings should be coated with refrigerant oil prior to installation." If you are considering replacing the compressor, you might also check some of the newer replacement units available through 928 International (714-632-9288) - they have a unit for $599, or perhaps, DEVEK (650-592-5287). The catalog is also a very handy reference and is $9.00 from DEVEK. Or I'll trade you my 81 928 (air conditioner works).
