Drop-in replacement for r12?

Hello gentlemen:

Have any of you heard any promising news regarding a drop-in replacement for r-12? Or is 134-a pretty much the best we can hope for. My car still has r-12, and I'm hoping someone will discover a refrigerant gas that will keep us r-12 users from having to retrofit our older cars. --thanks, J.O.
