It all depends on what you mean as "drop-in". If you mean will the refrigerant have the same properties as Freon R-12 - well no, only R-12 is like R-12. Are there refrigerant blends that will perform just like R-12 with no system modifications other than fill ports - definitely yes, however some blends are flammable (how do you fell about that?) and all exhibit unequal vapor pressures which makes leaky systems a problem.
