The halogens are chlorine, fluorine, bromine and iodine. The important ones in refrigerants are Cl and F. R-12, for instance, is dichlorodifluoromethane (C-Cl2-F2).

But hydrocarbons by definition have only hydrogen (H) and carbon (C) and no halogen atoms so it probably won't work...
